Laser Interstitial Thermal Therapy (LiTT)

LITT Treatment Dubai: What is it?

Laser interstitial thermal LITT treatment  Dubai is a minimally invasive method that allows doctors to precisely target and eliminate brain tumors while avoiding damage to surrounding healthy tissue. Ablation is a technique that uses the heat created by a tiny laser to kill cancer cells.

LiTT can treat a wide range of tumors, including newly diagnosed and recurring gliomas, as well as brain metastases (cancer that has migrated to the brain from elsewhere in the body). It is a valuable choice for people who cannot undergo a craniotomy. LiTT has several advantages, including a smaller incision, a shorter hospital stay, and faster recovery. LiTT treatment can also be employed to treat specific forms of epilepsy.

Who can benefit from LiTT treatment?

LiTT mainly treats newly diagnosed or recurring gliomas and brain metastases. However, it may be an option for individuals with brain tumors that cannot be treated with a craniotomy or who are unable or unable to undergo such surgery.

Various variables, including tumor size, shape, and location determine LiTT eligibility. The procedure is effective on circular, tiny tumors (less than 3 cm in diameter). Dr. Miguel will discuss your imaging tests, biopsies, and other information to determine whether LiTT is best for you.

Advantages of LiTT Treatment Dubai

LiTT is minimally invasive, with the surgeon making only a tiny incision in the scalp and a small hole in the skull. This gives a variety of advantages over regular surgery, including:

How does LiTT work?

Laser interstitial thermal therapy in Dubai is performed in a standard operating room, with patients sedated (asleep) throughout the process. Dr. Miguel will make a small incision on your scalp and drill a small hole in your skull.

Dr. Miguel then uses real-time MRI imaging to guide a catheter (a thin, flexible tube) to the tumor.

Next, a thin laser fiber is run through the catheter until it reaches the target. The tip is then heated to eliminate cancerous cells.

Sensors in the MRI system enable the surgical team to monitor brain tissue temperatures, ensuring that the laser only damages malignant cells and not healthy tissue.

You will be in the operating room for three to four hours (traditional surgery lasts four to six hours). Most of that time is spent positioning the laser; the therapy lasts only a few minutes.

Recovering from LiTT treatment

Patients recover from LiTT substantially faster than with standard surgery. Patients undergoing craniotomies spend two to five days in the hospital and 6-8 weeks recovering from the procedure. LiTT patients can go home the day after the surgery and resume normal activities in two to three weeks.
